EPISODE 0.049: DARK NIGHT OF THE CHEESY CHELSEA DOLLS

Episode 0.049: Dark Night Of The Cheesy Chelsea Dolls
(51.6 MB; 1:52:46 MIN)

When I start getting Cheesy Chelsea My First Vomit dolls in the mail, I know it can't be good.  However, I had no idea those evil little dolls would take over Dr. Von Martinez' mind and help Professor Peter P. Picklepepper track me down!  While I try to survive the evil Cheesy Chelsea doll onslaught and attempt to avoid being made into a tea by the professor, you get to listen to evil doll-themed OTR from Inner Sanctum, Nightfall and Hall Of Fantasy, as well as evil doll-themed music from Deadbolt and Jonathan Coulton.  Taliesin discusses the appearance of dolls in vampire cinema, courtesy of Taliesin Meets The Vampires

Huzzah for the musical genius of Jonathan Coulton! Any plans for them to tour with the Von Martinez Experience?

LOL - I'd love that, but can you imagine how difficult it is to get the Von Martinez Experience organized for a single gig?

Probably as hard as getting my band booked... that would be the Sgt. Staccato Specially-Abled Military Marching Band.

After listening to 0.049, I realize how much I miss Despicable and Bonemarrow. I also miss very dry toast with PB&J and a hot cup of Zombie Pinky Finger tea. Try to find THAT at Whole Foods!

Yeah, I especially like the podcasts featuring the whole gang, but occasionally they have other engagements.

I think Trader Joe's carries Zombie Pinky Finger tea... it's in the aisle next to their Two-Buck Chuck.

We miss you, too, J-J-J-James - our aim is terrible, what can I say? And that's DOCTOR Despicable, if you don't mind (or even if you do)!

I stand corrected. It's Doctor Doctor Aretemis or whatever-suits-the-occasion Despicable.

Best quote (for once, coming from a radio show and not the ZA sketch): "It's just a doll, not the goddamn Suez Canal."

    That line is awesome.

With little else worthwhile to do, having 'reviewed' fellow astronauts' comments and FOF cast members' responses back a year or so, and for those who appreciate the longer podcasts, which, I may add, are FREE, I gainsay (hint: online dictionary) I'm alone with my going into a near-coma state as I replay the longer FOF episodes. Not out of boredom, mind you, but from the relaxing drone (and screams) of people speaking as I lie back and do nothing. A particularly enjoyable, coma-producing episode is from a website suggested by ZA, Tennesseebillsotr.com, I Love a Mystery, "Bury Your Dead, Arizona," a whopping TWO HOURS FORTY-EIGHT MINUTES long with no breaks! I empathize with DD spending a week in ZA's closet. If no one looks very hard, you might never be found until...Gahan Wilson's classic Christmas cartoon comes to mind... the chimney sweep discovers Santa's skeleton blocking the chimney. Equally disturbing and hilarious for Christmas shoppers, MAD Magazine's Norman Rockwell parody, "Last Parking Space at the Mall." Life recently mimicked art big time! DD dissolved a greeter at the Mad Scientist Convention, then a man from south of the border dissolved 300 people in acid. Peggy Lee asked, "Is that all there is?" James Brown sang, "It is what it is." Bill Clinton said, "It all depends on what your definition of 'is' is." Need I wonder why coma to the accompaniment of the longer episodes of FOF and the extra-long "Bury Your Dead, Arizona" are so attractive and pleasing to an Old Flatulator? Ding Hoy, Little Feather Merchants!

As ususal, a very enjoyable episode. Unfortunately, I don't have to much trouble seeing the marketing of the cheesy chelsa doll. In fact, far to many of the products advertised are likely to show up in my life. Thank you for the podcasts!

Finally, a (sort of) origin story!

On top of some episode continuity?

To quote the great American sage Snoopy: "Not bad. Not bad at all!"

Is it me or have the last few episodes (Sans Canada) been a little Dr. Von Martinez heavy?

I only ask as I have come to the realization that his voice has permeated my brain.
When I recall comments or bits conversation from other people, it's all in the voice of Von Martinez.
And, of course, with the obligatory "Funky!" thrown in.

It makes for quite entertaining recollections, really.

    Hmm.

Maybe I've stumbled upon the next wildfire catch phrase: WWVMS? - What Would Von Martinez Say?

I'd probably say something like, "Get down with your funky slow-moving self!"

      All funky like. Alright!

Wait... what was that about a wildfire?
