EPISODE 0.054: NOW THAT'S THE SHAT

Episode 0.054: Now That's The Shat
(45.8 MB; 1:40:09 MIN)

Can you believe Dr. Von Martinez has no idea who William Shatner is?  Okay, so maybe it's not that unbelievable.  Listen to three audio selections featuring the Shat, including two Zero Hour episodes and a Caedmon album of the Shat reading Henry Kuttner's "Mimsy Were The Borogoves".

Good Shat, guys. Love the Shat! Kingdom of the Spiders was the Shat! Wish I had the widescreen though.

Kingdom Of The Spiders is delightfully cheesetastic! The Shat made some great cheesy horror - have you seen Devil's Rain?

No! It was on late night tv some time ago, and I was going to watch Devil's Rain, but I fell asleep! I really do want to see it. When I first saw KOTS back in the 80's on tv, the ending really disturbed me. I was thrilled to see the DVD years ago in a 5 dollar two pack with NOTLD '68. It was worth it to me, even if it was the third copy of NOTLD in my collection! I guess there is a rare widescreen version in another region out there.

Serling seems to have gone downhill after Twilight Zone. That Zero Hour script seemed to have some promise but boy was that a crappy finish. Though I will admit, I'd never have guessed the ending. His voice totally didn't record. I guess in a metaphorical way that's pretty cool. Maybe Serling's just working on a level I'm not ready for. Think I'll take a pass on the second episode.

As a whole, the Zero Hour series sucked. I think those two Shat episodes are cheesy fun, but in the way something like, say, the Shat's horror films are. Part of the reason Zero Hour sucked is Serling was only the host - he had both diddley and squat to do with the scripts and production.

Now I remember who the Shat is! After you played that first Zero Hour episode I recognized his voice! He did that Top 40 show on TV!

In the old days, the Shat didn't need widescreen until about the middle of the season - lately, though, it's pretty much a standard requirement...

No, there is no downside to pie unless
you count the crust, in which case you
should just say "crust", if that's what
you mean. And while Shatner has always
had plenty of crust, this is not a
        pie-related issue. It's a lying-around-
        eating-Ring-Dings-trying-to-come-up-with-
        come-on-lines-to-lure-more-green-women-
        into-the-sack-with-him issue. This
should NOT be left on pie's doorstep!

When Sam Diamond's 'secretary/mistress' ("Murder by Death" 1976) confessed, "My uncle used to take me to the circus until I was 26," Diamond asked, "What the hell kind of circus WAS it?" In a similar way, as episodes evolve, I wonder what kind of doctor Von Martinez is. Is there a cast biography as with special features on dvds?

HEE HEE! My first computer was one of those vic20's that the shat promoted. I learned basic and assembly language on that thing.

    As usual, fun.

By the way, how come we never hear of the crazed inventions of VonMartinez? Does he have a Tony Danza cloning machine? Is he too bent on world domination? Does he simply enjoy having a henchman to order about? Inquiring minds want to know!

Von Martinez is pretty benign as mad scientists go, thanks to his being more "mad" than "scientist". Although only a couple of his inventions have been discussed in the podcast, over the next few months everyone will find out what he spends most of his time researching and experimenting on...

I *built* my first computer at the age of 5! It would have been finished sooner, but there were delays in the shipping of the components - stupid Captain Company! The thing nearly took over Despicable Manor. My parents were so proud - yet angry and vindictive. If it weren't for an unspecified number of temporal experiments that have irreparably damaged the Space/Time continuum, I'd *still* be grounded!

But that's not the point! The point is, Von Martinez has been trying to sculpt a life-size, anatomically-correct statue of Tony Danza completely out of beef jerky. Is this SCIENCE?!? I ASK you!

I grimaced each time when Mr. Shatner said the word "grimaced" with a long A. He's certainly got his own unique way of pronouncing things.
